Redbones is the continuation of a family’s intense passion and deep love for music, food and entertainment. The family’s history includes a successful 25 year run with the infamous hot-spot, Epiphany Night Club which hosted enigmatic musicians like Jacob Miller & Innercircle, Third World, Dennis Brown, Ray Goodman, Melba Moore and a historic July 25, 1971 concert with Bob Marley & the Wailers among others. Additionally the family opened the equally beloved Theophany Pub.
Redbones Blues Cafe is a Jazz & Blues themed Caribbean Fusion Cuisine Restaurant & Bar that opened in Kingston in December 1996. It was time once again to engage the public with a love affair of understated elegance, superior service, top-notch cuisine, incredible entertainment and most importantly unforgettable memories! The Redbones stage has hosted well respected musicians from various genres including Maria Mulduar, Alvin “Youngblood” Hart, Irma Thomas, Debbie Davis, Frank Morgan, Liberty Silver, Michael Franti, Haila, Xiomara, Della Manley, Pluto Shervington, Ernie Smith, Sonny Bradshaw, Ernie Ranglin, Bob Andy, Nambo Robinson, Maurice Gordon, Earl “Chinna” Smith, The Jolly Boys, Judy Mowatt, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Taurus Riley, Beres Hammond and many more.
Jazz music originated in the beginning of the 20th century in the Southern United States from the confluence of African & European music traditions. We take our name from “Redbone”, a term historically used in much of the Southern United States and in particular in Southwest Louisiana to describe a person of mixed racial heritage. “Redbone” mirrors the Jamaican term “Brownin” and in this way aptly describes the racial mix of the proprietor’s family.
Over the past 14 years, Redbones has become a beehive of cultural and culinary activity hosting art exhibitions, foreign films, theatrical productions, worldbeat music evenings, vibes verse poetry nights, and the coolest live music shows in town!
Airy & elegant dining rooms, intimate terraces, enchanting private gardens & split-level courtyard surprise in this hidden gem that is unparalleled as an afternoon and late night eatery. Our walls are bedecked with photographs of Jazz & Blues legends, music memorabilia and photos of our infamous and not so famous clientele. While being a true refuge from the hustle & bustle of Kingston, Redbones curiously also provides the height of cosmopolitan energy in the Capital.
